Fun and Frivolity

Well, I only made it six days in a row of blogging. Sorry. I should be able to go on a streak much longer than that. What if I blog every single day in October? I think I should be able to do that. It's a very fun month and it's the month of my birthday!

We had a great weekend. Friday night I went to a Pampered Chef party at the home of a friend from work. David went with me and played Rock Band on the Wii with her husband upstairs while we all Pampered Chef'd downstairs.

He worked on Saturday, and I slept in (aaah). It was the perfect day for it too, still rainy. We then met my family at the bowling alley and Lex and AbiLyn bowled for the first time.

Mom and I went to Green Hills to see The September Issue, which was fabulous! If you've ever been a reader of Vogue with any regularity, you should definitely check it out.
After the movie, Mom suggested we get a snack at The Cheesecake Factory...code for "We want some cheesecake but would feel guilty just ordering a piece of cheesecake without some 'real' food first." She had a bowl of soup and I had a snack portion of Shrimp Scampi Crostini...delish! For dessert, we had red velvet cheesecake...oh. my. goodness. Amazing! It was a layer of red velvet cake, layer of cheesecake, layer of red velvet cake, and another layer of cheesecake with a white chocolate ganache on top.
Then we went to Anthropologie, where I came very close to buying this ear warmer, and Whole Foods, which Mom had never been to before. We got some granola but didn't write down the correct PLU code, so we got it for free! I also bought some hydrangeas that are so pretty! Oh, and I saw the Montgomery guy from Montgomery Gentry.

Saturday night I cleaned the house, and Sunday I went to church. We wrapped up the weekend Sunday night by watching the start of a new Ken Burns documentary on PBS.

It was a GREAT weekend!

Ode to Reese's Cups

I love Reese's cups. They are probably my favorite candy. They have a wonderful mix of flavors that is unmatched by anything.

However, I brought some miniature ones for my candy dish at work for people to have when they stop by my desk. I'm the only one that seems to be eating them. I can't stay out of them for they are too good!

Polenta

I just realized that I haven't posted yet today. I learned about making polenta tonight. One of my mom's co-workers came over to my mom's house and showed us how to make it from scratch and how to prepare the pre-made kind. It was yummy! It reminds me of a different version of cornbread or grits.

Blah-ness

Days like these are why I don't blog as much as I would like...very mundane. I did go to water aerobics tonight, and I did something goofy today.

I'm paranoid about leg and armpit smoothness when I'm going to be wearing a bathing suit, but I didn't get up in time this morning. So, on my lunch, I came home and shaved and showered, put the same clothes back on, and went back to work. Probably one of the weirdest things I've ever done.

Okay...

I just realized I start way too many posts with this word. Gonna try to stop doing that.

I Did It

Okay, I walked two miles. Our neighborhood is on a highway, and there's a berm built up between the houses and the highway. The top of the berm is kept mown down, so it's like a nice little path. That's the last part of my walk, and it was so pleasant tonight!

Now I can eat a taco and play Rock Band till bedtime! Fun!

Motivation

Okay, being around my mom's family has motivated me. Tomorrow I WILL exercise. Maybe if I put it out here, I'll be more likely to actually do it.

My mom, her sisters, my sisters, and my cousin are all very good about exercising, eating right, and staying in shape. I've fallen off that wagon big time this summer. Time to do something about it. Time to climb back on that wagon.

Double Cousins

I hope everyone has had a lovely Sunday. I slept for half of mine, did some ironing, and went to church tonight.

I wanted to post about an interesting anecdote from my mother's family that I learned more about this weekend.

My Granny June's sister, Catherine, married my Papa Leslie's brother, Gilford (love that name). So, the children from that union were my mother's double cousins. They were very close, of course. No matter which family they got together with, their mother's or their father's, their cousins were always there. I just think that is so cool.

I hope everyone has a happy week!

Food and Talking

I just returned from the 4th annual York ladies' sleepover at the lake. Wow. I seriously need to do some sort of cleansing detoxifying thing for the next two days. I can't believe all the delicious and rich and delicious food I ate this weekend.

It was a fabulous time!

I'm going to try to start blogging something every day just to see how long I can keep it up. At least something every single day. We'll see.

Friend-Kids

"My world hasn't contracted with the birth of each new friend-kid, it has expanded."

I could have written nearly this same post.

I love all the friend-kids in my life!

I think I just saw Noah float by...

It's very rainy here and has been for 3 days. I love rainy weather, but when I woke up to a gloomy house yet again this morning I must confess, I thought "Really? We're still not done with this?"

Only a couple of random items today. My youngest neighbor has swine flu. Pray for Nick and his family. They have a tough 3-5 days ahead of them.

Here's a link to a cool slide show. This guy builds houses out of salvaged scrap materials. Cool. Click.

And, I had a realization Sunday night. You know you live in a small town when you look around the restaurant you're sitting in before you tell a story about someone, for fear they might be at the next table.

Blogginess

Here's another new blog for you to check out. It's my brother-in-law. Enjoy the artsiness.

Farewell, summer!

I hope everyone had a fantastic labor day weekend! I really enjoyed mine. I went on to the lake Saturday morning with Mom. We got all the food loaded in and lounged around on the screened in porch. Dad joined us in the afternoon, and we ate dinner at the Dockside Market Saturday evening. After that Mom and I went to Wal-Mart in Tullahoma and just wandered around. I love doing that sometimes!

David had a gig Saturday night, so he came down Sunday morning. We spent the day lounging around, again! It rained some, and for some reason, we were all sort of over the boat and the water. It was like that all weekend! Mom and Dad fixed an amazing dinner Saturday night for us: t-bone steaks on the grill, baked potatoes, and grilled veggies! For dessert Mom made a homemade key lime pie! It was excellent. I can't wait to try the recipe. After dinner I watched as much of the race as I could with Dad. I fell asleep on the couch with only 20 laps to go.

On Sunday everyone else joined us, and we played and had Lex's 2nd birthday party in the evening. I'll post pictures soon!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! Now, time for fall!
