Momma and Daddy

I have lots of stories and pics to post about this past weekend, but I wanted to go ahead and continue the introduction to my family.

This is my mom and dad, Mike and MeShon Dugan. No matter what they say or think, they have always been and continue to be wonderful, amazing, and fun-loving parents! I love you both!

The Musical Instrument

"For when three sisters love each other with such sincere affection, the one does not experience sorrow, pain, or affliction of any kind, but the others' hearts wish to relieve, and vibrate in tenderness...like a well-organized musical instrument."
- Elizabeth Shaw

Me, Liz, and Carla. My sisters, my first and forever best friends. I love you both. I truly don't know how I would even function without you.

More Family

Meet some more of my family...

This is my Mom Glenda, Mama, and Grandaddy at the lake house for Mama's 99th BD party. I love the three of you more than you know. It's so wonderful to have you in my life.

Here's a picture of my Dad, Grandaddy, and David on the boat.

Nashville CityFest

This past weekend I went to the Nashville CityFest with my sister, Carla, and her husband, Brian. It was really awesome. The first picture is us, the second is Steven Curtis Chapman, and the third is TobyMac.

While we were there we killed some time playing with my new camera. I took the first picture. It's the BellSouth building (affectionately known as the "Bat Building"). Brian took the second picture of this little girl. She was so adorable. I tried to crop it down but wasn't able to. I'm still new at this. (Okay, I figured out how to crop it. It should look better.)

I'm trying to figure out how to get a video to show on my blog. I took some video of TobyMac. It's not very good, but I'm just trying to learn how to do this. We'll see.

Okay, I posted the video on YouTube, so it should be available shortly. Just click on the "play" symbol.

By the way...

I'm going to start posting pics of my family. Here's a picture of my sister (Liz) and her family (Eric and AbiLyn) on their recent vacation to St. George Island, FL. They may be the cutest little family I've ever seen. Anyway, you can see Lex (he's the bump). The second picture is AbiLyn being such a darling to her momma.

More pictures to come in the next few days. So if your picture isn't here yet, don't get your feelings hurt!

Update

I was reading some of my older posts, and I realized that I should post some updates...so here they are!

The sewing class was interesting, but I'm not "cut out" to be a seamstress (sorry, horrible play on words). I don't possess that brand of patience. I'll read a 1,000-page novel, no problem, but all that time hunched over a sewing machine or cutting out fabric...I can't handle it. However, one of my BFF's has found a new hobby. She and her daughter have worn matching outfits the past two Sundays that she made. Crystal and Lilla, you look adorable, and I'm so proud of you Crystal! You rock!

My sister's baby boy will be named Alexander Eric Droke (their daughter is Abigail Ellyn...matching initials, so cute). He'll be called "Lex." I love it! If he ends up being a criminal mastermind trying to take over the world, I'll be singing a different tune, but for now i think it's cute!

My parents-in-law got David a bench for our front porch for his birthday. We love sitting on it in the evenings admiring the front yard. Oh, they also sold their house this past Sunday. I'm so excited for them! They have quite a moving chore ahead of them, though, since they've lived in the same house for 30 years. Good luck, y'all! We'll definitely be there to help you!

Dream a Little Dream

I have always been one of those people who can vividly recall most of the dreams I have...to the point that they often will affect me the following day. David is totally opposite, in that he rarely remembers dreams he has. I think I remember the dreams so clearly because they usually occur in the early morning after I have awakened once and gone back to sleep.

A dream I had this morning sent me to Wikipedia to research the topic. I think it was a lucid dream which is a dream in which dreamers "realize that they are dreaming, and are sometimes capable of...controlling various aspects of the dream, in which the suspension of disbelief is often broken." I also remember something I heard once that dreams are sometimes ways of working out real life problems without the constraints of reality. For example, in high school I always wanted to be able to do a round-off back handspring. I had a great round-off, but could never finish with a back handspring. In numerous dreams I would backhandspring across the gym at school. In my dream this morning that happened. I was able to speak to someone that's been on my mind lately, but I don't even know how to contact them in reality. It was weird. I knew I was dreaming and was totally able to control the conversation with this person and ask/tell them things I would in person. Very weird!

Better Late than Never

"Mothers have need of sharp eyes and discreet tongues when they have girls to manage."
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

I'm just now getting around to saying Happy Mother's Day to my amazing and beautiful mother! I love the quote above and thought it was perfect for a Mother's Day post, since it reminds me so much of my own mom. I love you, mom! I don't know what I'd do without you!

Also, I want to say a belated Happy Mother's Day to all the other moms in my life (including, but not limited to): Debby (my wonderful MIL-you're awesome), Patty, Mom Glenda, Mama Dugan, Granny June, Liz, Crystal, and Chassidy.

To all these moms (including my own), if I'm ever blessed with a family, I hope to be half as wonderful a mom as you all are! I love y'all!

The Last Birthday

Yesterday my husband celebrated what we've been laughingly referring to as his "last birthday." He turned twenty-nine. He says that's as old as he's going to get. His family came over for dinner, and we all had a fun visit!

Happy Birthday, Sweetie! I love you very much!

Unbelievable

I don't even know what to say about this story. I would love to see this guy in action!

Landscaping

Okay, before I had a house I didn't think I'd care anything about my yard. That was going to be David's domain, and he could worry about it, but now I'm so proud when it looks good. Here are some pictures I took that show the results of David's hard work a couple of weekends ago.

New Page Element

I added a new list on the side of my blog. It's what I'm currently reading. I get this question a lot, so here are the answers. Also, if you click on the titles they're linked to Amazon.

The Queen is coming!

So, Queen Elizabeth 2 is making a visit to the U.S. You can click here for the story. Even people who are used to dealing with protocol on a day-to-day basis are thrown into a tizzy by the arrival of a monarch and the endless list of do's and don't's.

Happy 99th!

First, happy 99th birthday (yesterday) to my great-grandmother, Mama Dugan! I can't even begin to imagine the things you've experienced. Things I've only learned about in history class...you lived through! You're an amazing lady!

That leads into my summary of the weekend. The extended Dugan clan gathered at the lake to celebrate with the matriarch of our family! We had a great visit, great weather, and great food! I'll come back and post some pictures this evening, probably.
